Mayor's Office
Huntington Mayor Richard Strick is currently serving his second term as mayor, having been re-elected in 2023. Previously, Mayor Strick represented District 3 on the Huntington Common Council and is a founding member of the Drovertown Neighborhood Alliance.
Mayor Strick first moved to Huntington from Michigan in 2001 to attend Huntington College (now Huntington University). He met his wife, Jenna, there the next year and they were married in 2007. They have called Huntington home since.
Mayor Strick has obtained both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree with a focus on cross-cultural studies, Bible and pastoral studies. He also served full-time on the national staff for Love In the Name of Christ as an associate director. Before joining Love INC National, Mayor Strick served 11 years as an associate pastor and senior pastor at St. Peter’s First Community Church.
In addition to his professional roles in the community, Mayor Strick has been privileged to serve on the Boards of Directors for Pathfinder Services, Love In the Name of Christ of Huntington County, and the LaFontaine Center. He also enjoyed five years working with the Huntington North wrestling team. When he isn’t in meetings, you can find him fixing up the house that he and Jenna purchased in Drovertown or sharing his front porch with neighbors.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city and is responsible for all operations of the city departments. The mayor appoints heads of the executive departments and many board and commission members and presides over the Common Council and Board of Public Works and Safety meetings.
The Mayor is responsible for enforcing the ordinances of the city and the statutes of the state; ensuring efficient government of the city; filling vacancies in city offices when required; signing all bonds, deeds, and contracts of the city; and approving or vetoing ordinances, orders, and resolutions of the Common Council.
Term of Office
The Mayor's term of office is four years with no restrictions on the number of terms served. A candidate for Mayor must reside within the city and must have been a resident of Huntington for at least one year.
Richard Strick is the 30th mayor since Huntington's incorporation as a city in 1873.
