Water Pollution Control
The Water Pollution Control Plant is the critical facility that removes harmful bacteria and other pollutants from wastewater before it is released into the Wabash River. The Huntington Water Pollution Control Plant provides wastewater treatment for the City of Huntington and parts of Huntington County.
The plant is capable of treating an annual average flow of 7.5 million gallons per day and a peak wet weather flow of 15 million gallons per day.
Protecting Public Health and the Environment
Following the treatment process, cleaned water (effluent) is released to the Wabash River. Organic matter that is removed from the wastewater (also called sludge) is treated and dried to form “biosolids” that can be used for agricultural land application.
