Recruitment
Initial requirements for sworn employment as a police officer with the Huntington Police Department are established by the Indiana Code, which provides that applicants:
1. Must be a resident citizen of the United States.
2. Must be 21 years old and not have reached their 36th birthday by date of appointment.
3. Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
4. Cannot have a felony conviction.
5. Cannot have a misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence under [18 USC §922 (g)].
6. Must possess a valid driver's license from their state of residence.
7. Cannot have been dishonorably discharged from the military.
Screening Requirements
The Huntington Police Department's applicant screening process is multi-phased and consists of the following steps:
1. Review of automatic disqualifications in Resume/Application
3. Written Exam
4. Oral Interview
5. Background Investigation
6. Polygraph Examination
7. Conditional Offer of Employment
8. Medical & Psychological Evaluations (PERF)
9. Pension Board Approval
10. Sworn in as New Officer
