Initial Requirements
Initial requirements for sworn employment as a police officer with the Huntington Police Department are established by the Indiana Code, which provides that applicants:
- Must be a resident citizen of the United States.
- Must be 21 years old and not have reached their 36th birthday by date of appointment.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Cannot have a felony conviction.
- Cannot have a misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence under [18 USC §922 (g)].
- Must possess a valid driver's license from their state of residence.
- Cannot have been dishonorably discharged from the military.
- Must pass a mandatory drug screening test.
Screening Requirements
The Huntington Police Department's applicant screening process is multi-phased and consists of the following steps:
- Review of automatic disqualifications in Resume/Application
- Physical Agility Test
- Written Exam
- Oral Interview
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Examination
- Conditional Offer of Employment
- Psychological Evaluations
- Pension Board Approval
- Sworn in as New Officer
