Hazardous Materials Facility

Common items accepted at the Hazmat facility include computers, printers, fax machines, televisions, VCRs, paints, gasoline and oil, batteries, pesticides, poisons, florescent bulbs and more.

Huntington County now has its own permanent Hazardous Materials Facility, located next to the City of Huntington Landfill. The HazMat Facility is open for residential use every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 8 to 11:30 a.m. This service is provided at no charge to all Huntington County residents. Businesses and non-profits must be pre-approved and are accepted by appointment only.

The following lists some of the more common materials accepted at the new facility:

Electronics:

  • Computers (CPUs), monitors, and printers
  • Televisions, VCRs, and stereos
  • Fax and small copy machines

Paints:

  • Latex or oil based paints

Flammables:

  • Gasoline
  • Used motor oil
  • Propane cylinders
  • Aerosol cans
  • Adhesives
  • Transmission Fluid
  • Driveway sealer
  • Paint thinners
  • Polyurethane

Batteries:

  • Automotive batteries
  • Motorcycle batteries
  • Cell phone batteries
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries

Others:

  • Scrap metal
  • Pesticides/herbicides
  • Used antifreeze
  • Oxidizers
  • Poisons
  • Corrosives
