Department of Community Development-Land Use and Office Coordinator

Responsibilities include processing various permit applications, review and approval of various building permit applications, Building Code enforcement, inspections as necessary, and frequently the first point of contact for assisting the public both in person and over the phone. This position is also responsible for acting as the Hearing Officer and Staff Representative in the absence of the Director.
Successful candidate must have excellent communication, organization and computer skills. Previous experience working with GIS is preferred. Must be able to work on a variety of tasks, follow instructions, and understand City, Municipal and County government operations. Must be comfortable working with the public.

Adult Probation Officer-Probation

 The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct contact supervision to adult individuals ordered to community supervision by the Huntington County Circuit and Superior Courts. This position entails supervising a specialized caseload of adult offenders, including high-risk felony cases. Responsibilities include direct supervision, conducting home visits, preparing various court reports, performing risk assessments, attending and testifying in court, maintaining accurate records, and collecting urine and saliva drug screens.

 The successful candidate must be at least twenty-one years of age, of good moral character, and possess a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field. The candidate must be able to take and pass a required examination within six (6) months of the hire date. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to process information efficiently, apply problem-solving skills, and manage time effectively. The candidate must be capable of managing a large caseload, meeting deadlines, and working with a diverse population. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, is required.

 Wages are paid according to the Salary Schedule for Probation Officers by the State of Indiana. Regular business hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30 pm. However, the candidate must be flexible and available to work outside of standard hours, including the possibility of being on call.

Assistant Pre-Trial Coordinator-Community Corrections

 The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Pre-Trial Coordinator with monitoring screening individuals for placement in pretrial programs and preparing written summary for the Court prior to the Initial Hearings. This position maintains accurate case files, interviews and investigates potential participants, classifies participants according to risk based on IRAS results, and records the participants behavior and compliance with court orders.

 A successful candidate will hold a Baccalaureate Degree Social or Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, or related field (required).

 Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to efficiently process information and utilize problem-solving skills are also required. In addition, time management skills are essential. A successful candidate must have the ability to meet deadlines, as well as work with a diverse group of people.

Pay is up to $20.86 per hour, DOQ/E. Individual must be flexible to work hours outside of business hours (8a-4:30p M-F) and possibly weekends.

Jail Officer-Jail

This position is responsible for maintaining control and ensuring safety of facility staff and inmates. Position is also responsible for maintaining security of facility, handling booking and bonding procedures, and handing facility rule/regulation compliance.

Candidates will be trained in First Aid/CPR, AED and Defensive Tactics. In addition, a successful candidate must also possess excellent communication and computer skills, along with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidate must be open to work hours and days of the week. Part time positions may have some scheduled shifts, and may be called for short-notice fill-in shifts. There are no specific number of minimum hours per month; preference given to employees who work at least one shift a month after training period.

There is a five (5) day training required, along with a specific number of hours training on-the-job. 

Community Corrections Department - Full Time and Part Time Living Unit Coordinators

This position is responsible for the daily supervision of participants of the work release program utilizing prescribed policies and procedures, ensures a secure, safe and humane environment for individuals serving executed sentences through the use of evidence based practices.

A successful candidate will have successfully completed a High School Diploma or GED and experience in the area of criminal justice, social work, or counseling.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to empower program participants to make life-changing decisions by providing appropriate and specific evaluation, analysis and problem-solving techniques.

A successful candidate must have the ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements, as well as work with a diverse group of people.

The hourly rate for this position is up to $19.81 per hour, based on experience. This position requires flexibility as needed outside of business hours and possibly weekends.
