Director of the City/County Combined Public Safety Dispatch Center

Position Director of the City/County Combined Public Safety Dispatch Center.

 This position is responsible for overseeing county-wide dispatch operations, including law enforcement and fire communications. Duties include supervising dispatch personnel, ensuring the delivery of critical public safety services-including covering the dispatch console as needed, managing the departmental budget, and completing all required state, federal, and county reporting. 

Salary: Up to $70,068 annually, based on qualifications and experience 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of related dispatch experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to obtain all required certifications (IDACS, NCIC, CPR, First Aid, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly process information and apply effective problem-solving skills
  • Experience with budget management
  • Effective time management abilities
  • Ability to perform in and manage the high-stress environment of an emergency dispatch center 

A Baccalaureate Degree is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Solid Waste District-Household Hazardous Waste Assistant

Education: High School Diploma or GED

License/Certification: Valid Indiana Driver’s License with required endorsements and has demonstrated safe driving record

Training: Upon hire applicants must be able to acquire the following certificates, and or licenses. Huntington County Solid Waste Management District (HCSWMD) will cover costs associated with obtaining these: Forklift, Type 1 EPA certification, Hazwopper, Bulb Eater, 1st aid including CPR and bloodborne pathogens.

Requirements for successful performance of duties:

  • Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of department safety policies and procedures with ability to take proper precautions and ensure safety of self and others
  • Ability to properly operate a variety of trucks, and tools as assigned – forklift, pallet jack, and hand carts.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work along or with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
  • Offers assistance to other staff as workload permits.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Operates various heavy equipment and trucks in managing solid waste and maintaining condition of site property.
  • Equipment operated includes company truck, forklift, compactor, bulb eater, and other equipment as may be necessary for performance of duties.
  • Maintains all sites including painting, compacting trash, removing snow and ice in winter, and picking up litter and other duties as may be necessary for site maintenance.
  • Assists in maintaining vehicles and equipment as needed such as washing/cleaning forklift, municipal truck, and recycling containers.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the Solid Waste District Director.
  • Receives trash and recyclables from customers and assists with the unloading and placing in appropriate dumpsters as needed.
  • Performs all necessary forms of communication with customers such as but not limited to answering phone calls, emails, and in person communications.
  • Rejects inappropriate items and explains requirements to customers, including which items are recyclable and those which are not recyclable at the present time.
  • Receives payment from customers, gives accurate change and enters receipts into the computer.
  • Locks/unlocks gates and maintains grounds sweeping, picking up litter, clearing walkways, spreading salt, and shoveling/sweeping snow as needed in winter.
  • Sorts and processes boxes and barrels for household hazardous waste and prepares them for shipment.

Department of Community Development - Land Use and Office Coordinator

Responsibilities include processing various permit applications, review and approval of various building permit applications, Building Code enforcement, inspections as necessary, and frequently the first point of contact for assisting the public both in person and over the phone. This position is also responsible for acting as the Hearing Officer and Staff Representative in the absence of the Director.

Successful candidate must have excellent communication, organization and computer skills. Previous experience working with GIS is preferred. Must be able to work on a variety of tasks, follow instructions, and understand City, Municipal and County government operations. Must be comfortable working with the public.

Work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some evening meetings may be required. HS Diploma/GED Required.

Pay rate: Up to $20.50 per hour

Huntington County Community Corrections Department -Full Time Transition Team Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining order and supervising participants and their activities. Incumbent maintains the security of the facility as well as the safety of staff and participants while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. A successful candidate will hold a Baccalaureate Degree in psychology, criminal justice, social work, or related field. In addition, prior correctional and supervisory experience preferred.

Excellent communication skills and ability to efficiently process information and utilize problem-solving skills are also required. In addition, must provide leadership to staff in a team environment. A successful candidate must have the ability to meet deadlines, as well as work with a diverse group of people.

Pay is up to $23.17 hourly. DOQ/E. Individuals must be flexible to work hours outside of business hours (8a-4:30p M-F) and rotating weekends and holidays (40) hours a week.

Community Corrections Department - Full Time and Part Time Living Unit Coordinators

This position is responsible for the daily supervision of participants of the work release program utilizing prescribed policies and procedures, ensures a secure, safe and humane environment for individuals serving executed sentences through the use of evidence based practices.

A successful candidate will have successfully completed a High School Diploma or GED and experience in the area of criminal justice, social work, or counseling.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to empower program participants to make life-changing decisions by providing appropriate and specific evaluation, analysis and problem-solving techniques.

A successful candidate must have the ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements, as well as work with a diverse group of people.

The hourly rate for this position is up to $19.81 per hour, based on experience. This position requires flexibility as needed outside of business hours and possibly weekends.

Community Corrections Department-Services Case Coordinator

Position Type: Full-Time Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Pay Rate: Up to $23.62 per hour

Position Overview: Huntington County Community Corrections is looking for a Services Case Coordinator. This role entails assessing, coordinating, and managing cases for offenders assigned to programs such as Electronic Home Detention, Day Reporting, Community Transition, and Alcohol Monitoring. The coordinator will identify risks and needs and work closely with court entities as required.

Key Responsibilities:
•Conduct assessments and case management for assigned offenders.
•Identify offender risks and needs and develop appropriate service plans.
•Coordinate, document, and communicate effectively with court entities and other stakeholders.
•Maintain accurate records and documentation of all case activities.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in a social services field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
•Comfort working with the public, individuals in the court system, and individuals sentenced to Community Corrections.
