Flood Damage Prevention Ordinances
Huntington County and the towns of Andrews, Markle, Mount Etna, Roanoke, and Warren all participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Participation in the NFIP requires these jurisdictions to adopt a floodplain management ordinance to reduce future flood risks to new construction in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA). In return, the federal government makes affordable flood insurance available to property owners as a financial protection against flood losses.
- Huntington County SFHA Ordinance
- Andrews SFHA Ordinance
- Markle SFHA Ordinance
- Mt. Etna SFHA Ordinance
- Roanoke SFHA Ordinance
- Warren SFHA Ordinance
Most homeowners’ insurance policies will not cover losses due to flooding; flood insurance is only available through participation in the NFIP. For structures located within an SFHA, the purchase of flood insurance is mandatory if using a federally regulated/insured bank for a loan.
