A construction worker is seen working in a 34-foot-deep trench to install a new sewer interceptor.

Here’s what to look for going into the new year with ongoing construction projects.

Long-Term Control Plan (LTCP)

Atlas Construction’s crews will be shut down for the next week for the holidays. Starting the week of December 30, one crew will continue working on Tipton Street west of Jefferson on sewer interceptor installation. The Oak and Tipton intersection will close after they resume work.

Also starting the week of December 30, a second Atlas crew will begin sewer interceptor installation at the Byron and Tipton intersection. Work will progress east along Tipton from there.

A third crew will be replacing an underground structure at the intersection of Jefferson and Market starting the week of January 6. The intersection will close for about two weeks when work begins. At that time, please follow posted detours or find an alternate route.

The work listed above requires excavating deep trenches that can reach more than 30 feet deep. Keep your distance for safety! The large scope of LTCP-related work is necessary to meet our state and federal obligations for pollution control and mitigating combined sewer overflows.

Market Street Sewer Project

Crews working on the Market Street sewer project next to the Post Office will shut down for the next two weeks and resume work the week of January 6. When they return, the Poplar and Market intersection will close as work progresses toward Cherry Street. The Post Office entrance remains open from both directions coming from State or Oak streets.

Cottage, Jessup and Park Neighborhood Project

Crews will shut down for the next two weeks. They’ll return the week of January 6 to continue transferring residents’ water service to the newly installed water main. Storm sewer main installation will be to follow.
