Officer Logan Miller takes the Oath of Office

The Huntington Police Department welcomed new recruit Logan Miller during an Oath of Office ceremony on Friday morning at the City Building.

Miller, who is from Carmel, Ind., becomes the department’s 36th officer. HPD has one additional opening it will pursue filling for a full roster of 37 officers serving the Huntington community.

This round of hiring began in September 2024. Police Chief Cory Boxell said on Friday that Miller quickly stood out as one of the top applicants. Miller’s accomplishments include earning his Eagle Scout Award and attaining his Infantry Team Leader rank in the National Guard.

Miller plans to continue his National Guard enlistment while serving on HPD. He graduated with honors from Purdue last month with double majors in Agribusiness Management and Law & Society, minors in Political Science and Farm Management, and a certificate in Public Policy. Miller also interned with the Lafayette Police Department, where he was trained in various law enforcement technologies and tactics.

Chief Boxell noted Miller’s quick advancement in leadership roles as one standout quality among many.

“To this point, everything Logan has done in his life has helped to prepare him for a career in law enforcement,” Chief Boxell said.

Holding the ceremonial Bible while Miller was sworn in was his mother, Cindy.
