A photo buildings in Downtown Huntington

Construction related to Huntington’s Long-Term Control Plan continues in several locations. We thank everyone again for their patience as we all deal with traffic disruptions and other inconveniences.

Next week’s biggest change will be temporary daytime closures Downtown at Jefferson and Market streets from February 10-12. All LTCP work locations at this time include:

  • Byron and Tipton Street intersection (closure expected through mid-February).
  • Oak and Tipton Street intersection.
  • Division and Tipton Street area.
  • Market Street west of Cherry Street.
  • Daytime closures of Jefferson and Market Street intersection for three-day period.

Much of this work involves excavating deep trenches to install new sanitary sewer interceptors. These trenches can be up to 30 feet deep or more. Please keep a safe distance!

Unfortunately, project completion dates and the duration of road closures remain difficult to predict. Crews continue working as quickly as possible to excavate  varying amounts of bedrock and limestone. (Huntington is the "Lime City," after all.) Underground conditions aren't fully known until we dig in a certain area, and heavy limestone can slow progress substantially.
