City News & Updates
Krauskopf, Kevin
Thank you to everyone who helped us recognize and celebrate Disabilities Awareness Month. Every March, a national awareness campaign aims to educate and advocate for the inclusion of people of all abilities in every aspect of their communities. Locally, community partners working together on accessibility solutions include Pathfinder, the AWS Foundation, the Community Foundation of Huntington County and the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Community Accessibility.
The Community Foundation manages a Community Accessibility Fund that provides grants for the accessibility needs of local organizations, businesses and families. In collaboration with the AWS Foundation and Pathfinder, these grants provide funding for any project that will provide more inclusivity to everyone in Huntington and Huntington County. Private businesses, schools, individuals and families, churches, non-profits and government entities can apply.
Sensory-friendly spaces, toys and equipment, entryway ramps, vehicles for individuals with disabilities, universal restrooms and inclusive playground upgrades are just a few examples of projects and needs the Community Accessibility Fund was created to support. Everyone is encouraged to join us in making Huntington a great place for everyone who calls it home.

Proclamation
Whereas, the City of Huntington recognizes people of all abilities to be an important and valuable part of our rich diversity; and
Whereas, the City of Huntington also recognizes the distinct talents and experiences those with disabilities offer to our community; and
Whereas, the City of Huntington reaffirms its commitment to creating environments, policies and systems that welcome and support all community members, including those who live with disabilities; and
Whereas, we must acknowledge as a community that there are systemic barriers that preclude those with disabilities from enjoying equitable experiences and living independent lives within their community; and
Whereas, dismantling these barriers in order to create equitable, inclusive environments for all is a responsibility everyone shares; and
Whereas, each Huntington resident should do their part to:
v Recognize the valued experiences and contributions those with disabilities add to our community.
v Understand the barriers and the financial, economic, spiritual, and community losses we experience when systemic barriers prevent contributions from those with disabilities.
v Find solutions to include everyone in all aspects of community life.
v Encourage the development of equitable policies and systems for everyone.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Richard Strick, hereby proclaim March 2025 as Disability Awareness Month and urge all community members and policymakers to continue pushing forward for a more inclusive and equitable Huntington.
