Earlier this week, Mayor Strick presented family members of Charles W. Rogers with a commemorative plaque honoring his role in developing the Huntington Municipal Airport.
Rogers was appointed in 1959 by Mayor Robert Ambler to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study. Rogers’ work over the following decade with the Huntington Aviation Commission was instrumental to the airport’s establishment.
Rogers passed away in September 2019.

In recognition of Charles W. Rogers, whose visionary leadership and unwavering commitment were instrumental in the establishment and development of the Huntington Municipal Airport.
Appointed in 1959 by Mayor Robert Ambler to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study, Charles served with dedication as chairman and member of the Huntington Aviation Commission until 1969. He overcame public opposition and navigated both local and federal processes. Tirelessly devoting countless hours, he brought the municipal airport to fruition, leaving an indelible mark on our community.
The City of Huntington expresses deep gratitude for his dedication and service as it has profoundly impacted aviation and our city’s infrastructure.
