During their September 10 meeting, City Council members continued discussion and consideration of a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) that could potentially come to downtown Huntington. If implemented, DORA would allow adults 21 and older to purchase alcoholic beverages from approved vendors and carry them within the designated boundaries of the map below. Ordinance 9-C-24 would allow this only during specified special events.

  • Alcoholic beverages could only be purchased and carried in designated DORA cups sold by approved vendors.
  • Business owners in the DORA district could choose whether to allow alcoholic beverages to be carried into their individual businesses.
  • Police Chief Cory Boxell shared that he contacted officials in many of the 21 Indiana communities that currently allow DORA to learn about their experiences, sharing his findings during Tuesday’s Council meeting.

Council opted at Tuesday's meeting to allow more time for public input on the plan prior to an initial vote. Your feedback is welcome and encouraged. Click here for a list of Council representatives by district.
