The Huntington Fire Department announced its newest firefighter during a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, October 22.
Trae Hille, a Fort Wayne native and Homestead High School graduate, will begin the Fort Wayne Fire Training Academy training program in February. He will earn state firefighting and EMT certifications during the 23-week course.
During Tuesday’s ceremony, Fire Chief Tony Johnson said courage, patience and being a team player are among the character traits that make a successful firefighter.
“Firefighters are known for their willingness to put their lives on the line to protect the citizens that they serve,” he said. “Through your career, you will be faced with many challenges that will test you, but this career will fill you with a sense of pride knowing that you are called to help people.”
Among other family members, Hille was joined Tuesday by his mother and stepfather, Carmyn and Kurt Drummond; father, Brian Hille; and brother, Grant Drummond, who held the ceremonial Bible while Hille took the oath of office.
