LTCP Update

Brick sidewalks along the section of Tipton Street between LaFontaine and Jefferson will be removed starting Monday morning in preparation for the next parts of the city’s Long-Term Control Plan. The bricks will be stored offsite so they can be protected and re-laid after the project’s completion. Their temporary removal is the next step in work required by state and federal mandates to update the city’s century-old combined sewer system (stormwater and sewage conveyed in the same pipes) and prevent overflows into local rivers and streams. The LTCP’s final phases are on track for completion well ahead of a 2026 deadline.

Recent work on the LTCP’s final phases has been mostly focused at the Water Pollution Control Plant. Later this summer, however, major construction is scheduled to begin along a route that includes parts of Hitzfield, LaFontaine, Tipton and Division streets as shown below.

LTCP Update

Deep trenches will have to be excavated to install a new sanitary sewer interceptor. Please maintain a safe distance! This will be done in shorter segments to minimize closures. The construction timeframe for this project will extend into fall/winter 2024.

Sidewalk availability and on-street parking will be limited at various times and locations during this project. Click here for more about what to expect.
