EPA crews have remobilized to the former H.K. Porter site on Huntington’s east side. The federal agency is prepping for soil replacement on nearby residential properties that previously tested for high levels of contaminants. Their on-site team told us to expect that work to begin the week of Monday, July 24.

Separately, a nearly $1 million Brownfields Cleanup Grant the city was awarded in May 2023 will be used to remediate the contaminated site and demolish its remaining structures by the end of 2025. A community plan will be made to prepare the site for safe and productive reuse that benefits the neighbors around it.
